Working in oil and cold wax, I create expressive abstract and semi-abstract paintings that seek to interpret my personal experience of both the external and internal worlds we all inhabit.
I work on several paintings at once but within each group or series my aim is to explore a particular theme. Starting without a pre-conceived final image in mind I use a variety of tools to manipulate the mixtures of oil paint and cold wax, adding and subtracting areas to create layers of colour and texture. I love the physicality of the paint and the freedom of expression of those initial stages.
There comes a point at which the image emerging begins to chime with my original intention. Then I work more slowly until I feel the colours, marks and composition connect with the mood or feeling I am searching for. It is very often in these latter stages that a title comes to me and helps me resolve the painting.
I do so hope you discover something in my paintings that resonates with you.
